Description

Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark of several tree species from the genus Cinnamomum. It has originated in the central hills of Sri Lanka. In India, it is grown in one or two locations in Kerala.

The spice form of cinnamon is obtained by removing the outer bark of the tree, and scraping the inner bark, which is then washed for any impurities and then sun dried.

Cinnamon is used mainly as an aromatic condiment and flavouring additive in a wide variety of cuisines, sweet and savoury dishes, breakfast cereals, snack foods, bagels, teas, hot chocolate and traditional foods.
